Purdue University Employee And His Service Dog Make Perfect Team

Derek Douglass, a Purdue University employee, was born with epilepsy.  He has complex partial seizures and tried many medications which did not work.

He now has a VNS which delivers 30-second pulses to his brain approximately every 3 minutes.

Roscoe, his service dog, goes to work with Derek everyday.  Roscoe has a VNS therapy magnet on his color.  When Derek has a seizure Roscoe will “snuggle” with him to get close enough to make the machine push more pulses to his brain thus stopping it.

Both Derek and his supervisor, Chris are thankful for Roscoe who helps with emergencies both at home and work.
